America is unlike any other nation in the world, now or in the past. The difference that causes such intense love and hatred is encapsulated in the first few sentences of the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. It also expresses the reason America is so loved.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
This does not state the form government should take but it is clear about its principles and purpose, and that becomes the point of contention. So, who are the actors in this love and hate relationship and why do they feel the way they do?
On one side are the ideologies commonly known as Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Monarchy, Oligarchy and Statism. Strip the eloquent oratory and lies from these ideologies and a common denominator emerges; elitism.
To the elite, the few sentences I have extracted from the Declaration of Independence are sufficient cause for bitter disagreement and fear. Recognition of a Creator challenges their absolute authority. There are no unalienable rights but only what the elite grant to their inferiors. The right to govern belongs to the elite and does not require the consent of inferior people. This superiority-inferiority relationship is the essence of elitism and will be maintained by force of arms.
On the other side are people who live or have lived under elitist rule. They don’t expect something for nothing and reject the false promises of free everything. They have heard this all before and their elite masters have only delivered poverty, despair, ignorance and death. They know they have to work for their reward and have no right to the labor of others. They believe there are unalienable rights but appreciate these can be taken by a morally corrupt government. They want to pursue a life of their choosing and not what has been consigned to them by the elitist. These people flock to America, legally and often at considerable sacrifice as their elitist masters strip them of what they own before the leave.
Finally, there are American citizens who have never known tyranny but still choose to love or hate their country. Those who love America see a land of liberty where they can pursue what makes them happy within the reasonable limits of law and morality. Those who hate America the most see a land that denies them their self-proclaimed superiority and all the rewards and power they believe they should receive as a consequence. They generate a following based on laziness, greed, envy and frustration. To be elevated to what they believe is their proper position, America must be lowered, debased, demonized and eventually destroyed.
The destruction of America is not just an egocentric pursuit of the elitist but is required to eliminate a viable example of prosperity and happiness achieved by a free people. The extreme efforts to denigrate America’s prosperity is fully understandable. The elitist world cannot tolerate such an example that might inspire people to question authoritarian rule. That could lead to instability and an overthrow of the existing order, exactly as justified by our Declaration of Independence. To prevent this, America must be disgraced and then overthrown.
So here we are with a country divided against itself. The elitists are lined up on one side, supported by violent mobs, renegade judges, corrupt politicians, government unions and media propagandists. On the other side are normal citizens who simply want to enjoy their unalienable rights and not interfere with the rights of others. They love America because they know the warts are trivial compared to the overall beauty. Is it possible to reconcile differences with a mob intent on depriving you of the free speech necessary for reconciliation? Tyranny and liberty can exist together in varying degrees and in different areas of influence but without free speech, tyranny will prevail.
Understanding who the elitists are, their various motivations and methods is essential to the defense of our country against those who hate it. That will be the topic of future articles, including a lesson learned on how to destroy a TEA party.
