Moral Confusion As a Tactic
September 9, 2009

Creating moral confusion is a tactic used to create moral paralysis. Once paralyzed, the subject can be led in whatever direction the creator of moral confusion chooses, or at least neutralized to not resist. I’m sure every member of every lynch mob would claim they were doing what was right and so obviously right that due process wasn’t necessary. It only takes one or two people to create enough moral confusion that the mob can then be led in whatever direction the leaders choose. The mob may have regrets later when emotion gives way to reflection and reason, but the evil deed once done cannot be undone.

The bedrock of American morality has been the Judeo-Christian ethic and tradition, and that alone has been the source of our wealth and strength, and the greatest obstacle to a socialist totalitarian state. The conflict that started in the Garden of Eden has spread to every locale on Earth, including both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. The forbidden fruit offered by the mob leaders may be different but the outcome will be the same. As deficient and imperfect as our little piece of Eden may be, even that will be lost. In the latest push for Obamacare, the serpents have appealed to the churches of America to enlist their aid. It appears the Catholic Bishops of America have taken a bite and succumbed to the moral confusion incited by the mob leaders.

The Catholic Bishops endorse Obamacare because they view it as an act of Christian charity. Providing the poor with medical services is a worthy cause, or so says the serpent. The bishops are biting the apple and ignoring the worms that riddle its flesh. They chose to ignore the means because they have become morally confused by the ends. Charity is a virtue, but what means are required to achieve the serpent’s charitable ends?

Obamacare will fund abortions and may even require abortions in certain cases. The bureaucrats will decide which children should be delivered and which should not based on an economic prognosis of that child’s contribution to the “greater good”. The balance sheet will examine the cost of abortion versus the cost of childbirth and prenatal care as well. The bureaucrats will not be “God’s partners” in matters of life and death, but will be gods themselves. They will decide what lives should end, and what lives should begin. The Catholic Bishops have chosen to ignore this means to an end. Those of us who believe in God’s commandments have no moral confusion over this issue. The taking of innocent life, regardless of the motives, is expressly forbidden.

Obamacare will fund euthanasia and the argument will be that it is the right thing to do to alleviate suffering and pain. The bureaucrats that will deny medical treatment will authorize euthanasia based on economics. Their contrived dispensation of mercy is simply another effort to create moral confusion. The Catholic Bishops have swallowed this worm. The taking of innocent life, no matter how painlessly done, is expressly forbidden.

Obamacare will be funded by theft, taking from those whom the mob leaders decide should pay and giving to those whom the mob leaders say cannot. Taking the property of others is theft. Compelling them to work for others is theft of their time, better known as slavery. Here again the Catholic Bishops look at the ends as charitable but ignore the means by which that charity is achieved. Theft, no matter who is the recipient of the stolen property, is expressly forbidden.

Obamacare is being sold by an appeal to envy. The serpent claims those who have more and can afford more are the beneficiaries of an unfair advantage. The serpent says they should be compelled to “share”. The serpent incites the mob to do what is wrong with envy. The morally confused indulge their envy to justify their theft. The Catholic Bishops, rather than oppose the sin of envy, absolve it because of the ultimate good they perceive it will bring. Envy, no matter how, why or for what purpose it is aroused, is expressly forbidden.

Moral confusion is a tactic the left has used effectively to shake people from their foundational beliefs. What is wrong is right, what is right is wrong, the ends always justify the means and if it feels good it is good. Those who are confused by these assertions may join the mob, or at the least not resist the mob leaders. The Catholic Bishops of America, whom we look to as guardians of moral certitude, have succumbed to moral confusion and joined the mob.

The Ten Commandments have been the foundation of our laws. Those laws were just until we let moral confusion manipulate our emotions and ability to reason. That confusion has enlisted some to the ranks of the mob and paralyzed others to not act at all. The result has been unjust laws, unjust decisions concerning those laws and moral paralysis to resist. When religious leaders become morally confused and pursue an end regardless of the means, the serpent delights. The serpent is working overtime to peddle his forbidden fruit.
