Nancy SalvatoHow Secular Is "New Age" Education?
Nancy Salvato
March 10, 2004

With all the hysteria about keeping God’s influence out of the schools in the fear that one religion would be represented to the detriment of another, I find it incredibly hypocritical that the proponents of New Age religious values have been able to influence the mission of our schools and more than one generation of students without anyone raising a stink about it!

I charge the public schools with an ongoing promotion of Theosophy, a blend of Eastern religion with Western occultism under the pretext of secular humanism. Established by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky in the late 1800s, "Theosophy has influenced occult, spiritualist, New Thought, and New Age movements around the world since then.” This is to the absolute detriment of Judeo Christian values because, according to Blavatsky, "The LORD is not God; mankind is. … In the New Age, there will be world government; the economy will be remade to promote sharing. Traditional morality and traditional families will disappear. Orthodox religions - especially Christianity and Judaism - are separative and obsolete; in the New Age, they too will vanish.” How does this differ from the mission of our schools, I ask?

New Age goals such as diversity and multiculturalism are similar to the goals of most educational institutions. To achieve the New Age Civilization, "Forum speakers have offered all the progressive nostrums that they can pull from the shelf: upholding indigenous cultures as the ideal, reforming education to create the new global citizen,”… and "revising the world's major religions to produce more democratic, egalitarian, and individual-friendly spirituality." 1

It isn’t hard to find examples of New Age Influence enveloping our society…especially within the educational domain. Try and envision the long term effects of not offering Civics in our school systems. Instead, schools require students of Social Studies to learn about the strengths of other cultures and how those cultures view our weaknesses; all the while downplaying their cultural excesses while emphasizing our least flattering affairs. Under the "secular” realm of influence falls: same sex marriage; taking God out of our Pledge Of Allegiance; Justice Roy Moore removing the Ten Commandments and losing his office; and the Lemon Law and Reindeer Test being utilized to ensure that there isn’t Judeo Christianity in public displays, (which includes our nation’s schools). By default, all of this promotes Theosophy.

New Age leaders have long understood that, "The educational system must undergo the most radical transformation process. Changes must be introduced on the level of the pre-school child, and be implemented across the entire spectrum to the most advanced tertiary institutions, including theological seminaries. The identity consciousness of pupils and students must be countered. They must be prepared to take their place as planetary citizens in a multi-cultural, multi-religious, non-racial and non-sexist society. Narrow-mindedness must be replaced by the largest possible degree of open-mindedness on all matters, thereby superseding any narrow ideological orientation. Theological faculties must be declared open faculties where Eastern and African religions can be included in the curricula of disciplines such as comparative religion, science of religion, or religious studies. In this way the gap between different religions and ideologies can be narrowed.” 2

Across the United States UNESCO's programs are being implemented according to William F Jasper in The New American Magazine. According to Phil Brennan, "Most Americans are blissfully ignorant of the insidious nature of this crowd of one-world, paganistic pseudo-communists (and real ones) who are bound and determined to create a new world order, establish a new world religion of tree worshippers that supplants and scorns Christianity and Judaism, promotes abortion worldwide, seeks to capture control of schools and schoolchildren, and is in the process of transforming national and privately owned property in the U.S. and elsewhere into its greedy hands.” 3

As I wrote about in an article entitled Further Left Than Multiculturalism, there is a UNESCO European-based International Baccalaureate (IB) program being implemented in our nation’s middle schools. These schools are to become "feeder schools" for the IB's high school diploma program which has already been established across the United States. This is a United Nations-sponsored school program that aims to become a "universal curriculum" for teaching global citizenship, peace studies and equality of world cultures.

It’s very telling that, "The second student-based art exposition in the framework of UNESCO's SOUL Project was held at the Theosophical Society in London, England on the 21st May 1999. The exposition centered around 49 projects submitted by students from seventy schools in the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) network. ‘Geiger called the IBP ‘the perfect vehicle to implement U.N. goals,’ including ‘the subordination of national sovereignty’ and the promotion of peace at all costs, including ‘the appeasement of dictators.’” 5

"Robert Muller, a former assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, won the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 1989 for his World Core Curriculum.” His philosophy is based on the teachings set forth in the books of Alice A. Bailey. She believed that the New Religion would work closely with the United Nations. The expressed aims and efforts of the United Nations would be brought to fruition "and a new church of God, gathered out of all religions and spiritual groups, will unitedly bring to an end the great heresy of separateness.” Coincidentally, Alice Bailey is published by Lucis (formerly Lucifer) Publishing Companies. Her writings are full of references to astrology, occult and channelling. "It is apparent from this brief look at the beliefs of the Lucis Trust that they are at odds with Biblical Christianity. Although there may be many sincere people in the movement, because they are opening themselves up to ‘higher supernatural powers’ there is every danger that they are opening up to the evil supernatural.” It wouldn’t be a jump to assume that satanic supernatural will affect all those affiliated with this New Age organization.

Muller wanted to deify the United Nations. "At the beginning the UN was only a hope. Today it is a political reality. Tomorrow it will be the world's religion.” Spangler’s description of true democracy is that, "All spiritual societies are hierarchical. They cannot function in any other way. ... It is not the will of the majority that is important. It is the will of the whole ... Democracy as we know it is a quantitative form of government. True democracy, however, is qualitative, and that is what we must return to.” Spangler says that theocratic democracy is the direction of humankind. 6

Jasper warns, "A global stealth campaign is underway and is gathering momentum. The masterminds of this campaign are aiming at nothing less than a world revolution, a revolution of mind and heart that will change and 'transform' humanity. They have devised a new 'Global Ethic' to replace the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a new 'Sixteen Principles' to replace the Ten Commandments. They call it the Earth Charter."

All of the following are using the Earth Charter in our country:

The School Sisters of Notre Dame, a teaching order of Catholic nuns; All 35 members teaching "The University Colloquium: A Sustainable Future" at Florida Gulf Coast University use the Earth Charter. This class is a graduation requirement in all five colleges of the university; The Global Elementary Model United Nations, a worldwide elementary school program, adopted the Earth Charter as its overarching theme for 2002 and asked participating students to use UNESCO teaching materials on the Charter;” Earth Charter: Pathway to a Sustainable Future" is the title of a course taught by Dr. Laurie Thorp at Michigan State University; Earth Scouts, a new national youth program, was launched last year "based on the Earth Charter: A Declaration of Interdependence," with badges for the Charter’s 16 principles; The University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and Prescott College have endorsed the Earth Charter, with plans to eventually integrate it into all departments; The U.S. Conference of Mayors and many organizations and local governments have endorsed the Charter; The Ark of Hope and Earth Charter are being taken to U.S. cities and communities to aid the campaign for its adoption.

Jasper admonishes, "Although children are not allowed to pray in the government schools to the one true God who made the cosmos and everything in it (including our planet), they are being encouraged, under the new "global spirituality," to adopt the pagan religions of indigenous cultures and to worship the Earth itself. The UN-appointed high priest of the new Earth cult, Mr. Gorbachev, has declared his creed: 'Cosmos is my God; Nature is my God” 7

A New Age World Order is the antithesis to what our founding fathers and framers envisioned when they formulated the Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution. Our system of government was based on Judeo-Christian philosophy. Our Democracy is all about individual freedom and civic responsibility. We have a Capitalistic Economy. It is our right to be proud of what our country has accomplished and who we are as a nation. We should cherish the system of government that we have in place, a government established to protect our sovereignty. If you don’t believe me, ask people who have lived under Dictators, Communism, or Socialism.
