Appeasement is an ideology that
historically hasn’t had much success in deterring acts of aggression from
groups with extreme philosophical views about religion and government. In
fact, there are three periods that come to mind immediately which are
punctuated by the failure of appeasement and the eventual realization that
to stop the encroachment, declaring war was to become inevitable. We tried
using this policy during World War II and failed to dissuade the Kamikaze
fighter pilots from Japan nor Nazi ethnic cleansing and conquest. Today it
has yet to dampen the continuing Muslim Jihad in Israel.
One would have thought that most people in the world had learned the lesson
that was to be had from the above precedents but perhaps the moral has been
lost on generations of people brought up in a world edging toward moral
secularism, global citizenry, and the "me first” mentality.
World War II took care of the Nazi Threat and Japanese Imperialism; however,
Israel and the rest of the world have not proven able to eradicate terrorism
through a sustained limited response to specific acts of infitadah. By
qualifying their response, the problem has only grown bigger.
Hitler began as a pimple on the face of Germany, and most Europeans figured
he would eventually go away. He was dismissed as a serious threat to power
and only rose to a position of leadership because the vote for a ruler
inside Germany was so fractured that he was elected into office by a very
small minority of people sympathetic toward his views. But once he gained
power, it wasn’t long before he eliminated his opponents, established an
army, and invaded
land that he believed rightfully belonged to Germany.
European leaders believed that they could satisfy Hitler's hunger to increase the size of "the fatherland" by allowing him to bite off just one
little piece. Unfortunately, one little bite led to another, and another,
and another. He also elevated the tradition of blaming the Jew for all of
their economic woes to a new high; making them and others not fitting the
Aryan profile the convenient scapegoat for problems resulting from the huge
debt incurred for having to pay reparations for the damages of W.W. I.
The lessons to be learned here are that what starts out small, like a
little, hardly recognizable cancerous growth, can become a full-blown
malignancy before you know it. The second lesson is that when a country is
leveled, no matter what the reason, it must receive help in rebuilding, or
discouragement and anger will fester until there is a renewed insurgence of
trouble. We rebuilt Japan and they became one of our best allies. When we
leave leveled countries to fend on their own, they are left without the
resources to develop an economically viable system of commerce or sustain a
government immune to domestic strife and imbalance.
Today there is a group of people hostile to the United States who in the
name of the Islamic religion calls for our demise, yet a vocal minority in
this country (oblivious to the impending danger) believes that being
sympathetic to our enemy’s cause can resolve the potential for violence. I
liken that scenario to any victim of assault who begged the perpetrator not
to murder them and isn’t alive to tell the tale. The personalities of
extremists who would kill innocent civilians to make a political point are
warped and are not based in reality. There is no compassion for humanity or
love for their brethren.
Although our President has proven his strength in the face of this imminent
danger, I am worried his administration hasn’t recognized another detractor
for what it is by unwittingly awarding funding in support of the
International Baccalaureate program whose mission is to create a global
society.
Global values derived from Socialist principles serve to undermine the
ability of our public school system to foster civic pride in American
society and in our common heritage. The program will help to indoctrinate a
legion of U.S. Citizens, devoid of an understanding of the Judeo/Christian
principles recognized as the foundation of our great strength and
civilization. Global values (Socialist in origin) will, like Islam, work to
eliminate our Capitalist society and Democratic form of government.
I am bewildered that we can find funding for a program which will ultimately
undermine the President’s goal to eliminate those who threaten our way of
life. There has been a breach in our security. How was this allowed to
happen? It walked onto the Senate floor between Teddy Kennedy and Hillary
Clinton. It’s no wonder Zell Miller would like to see the 17th Amendment
repealed!
