About Lee Boyland
Lee
Boyland earned a degree in nuclear engineering, then entered active duty as
an officer in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. A graduate of the U.S. Navy’s
Explosive and Nuclear Ordnance Disposal Schools, Boyland was assigned to the
Defense Atomic Support Agency in Albuquerque, NM. A member of DASA’s Nuclear
Emergency Team responsible for nuclear weapons accidents, including the
rendering safe of armed nuclear warheads, he had access to the design
details of every nuclear and thermonuclear warhead developed by the United
States through the Mark 63 warhead. His duties took him to the Nevada Test
Site on many occasions. After leaving the Army, he designed conventional and
special ordnance, and demilitarized chemical weapons at Rocky Mountain
Arsenal and Tooele Army Depot. He made the transition to hazardous waste
management by applying aerospace combustion technology to incineration of
Agent Orange. He is the author of
The Rings of Allah and
Behold, an Ashen Horse, which received critical acclaim by the
Military Writers Society of America. |

Connecting the Dots
June 7, 2010
Someone once said that the definition of insanity was doing the same
thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps a
more modern analogy would be attempting to appease terrorists and
religious fanatics over and over again and expecting them to change
their hate to love.
We in the West believe in turning the other cheek, that goodness
overcomes evil, and that kindness defeats hate and anger. This belief
usually works as long as we are dealing with people from our culture.
What about a culture that has opposite beliefs? A culture where kindness
is a weakness, and power is the currency of respect—The Middle East?
Our president has pulled out all of the stops. He has apologized for
every conceivable fault the U.S. could possibly have, to anyone who
would listen. His state department even apologized to China for
Arizona’s new immigration law, a law that is a diluted version of
federal law. He bowed to the Saudi King, telling the Islamic world that
the U.S. accepted Muslim authority.
Iran has been allowed to pursue a nuclear weapons program, while the UN
debates and debates and debates. Has the UN every accomplished anything
of worth? Yes, when the America led and forced them to follow. Now we
have a follower as our president: An appeaser with a huge ego; a man who
has trampled our Constitution into the ground, and packed our government
with like-minded idiots. Perhaps idiot is too kind a word—the "T” word
comes to mind.
Who is to blame? Look in the mirror. We elected the fools who populate
Congress and the Executive Branch.
Before we can connect the dots, we must identify them.
China
China, our banker, is asserting itself. Meetings are being cancelled,
diplomatic speak for insults. A Communist country that has openly stolen
our secrets lectures us, the once bastion of capitalism, on economics
and out-of-control spending. The worst part is that the Chinese are
correct. Will the end of the 21st Century find China at the top of the
food chain? China covets this position, while we seem to shun it.
China, Russia, Iran, Syria, the Taliban, and al Qaeda have found that
they can play and intimidate Obama. Saudi Arabia is content with playing
him. America’s star is falling like a meteor, and impact with the hard
realities of the world is immanent.
North Korea
The nation of North Korea, a smoldering volcano on the Korean peninsula,
was established at the end of WWII. Korea was divided into two nations
with the Soviet Union controlling the north. Stalin appointed Kim
Il-sung, know as "Great Leader” as the nations’ dictator. He was
succeeded by his son, Kim Jong-il, known as "Dear Leader.” Dear Leader
wants to rule a united Korea, his Korea. China supports him.
North Korea’s main exports are weapons, missiles, and nuclear
technology. Its main customers include Iran, Syria, small dictatorial
governments, insurgents, and terrorists. North Korea has developed and
tested a nuclear weapon in defiance of the UN. Dear Leader’s most recent
provocation was the sinking of the South Korean naval corvette
Cheonan on March 26, 2010—an act of war. Dear Leader has thumbed his
nose at the UN and the U.S., threatening that any response will cause a
war with South Korea.
So far, the great UN has not been able to agree on the text of a nasty
memo to Kim.
Iran
The Islamic Republic of Iran, the wellspring of radical Islam, was
created by another appeaser, President Jimmy Carter. Carter allowed the
radical cleric Grand Ayatollah Khomeini to take over the country, invade
the sovereign soil of the United States, and take diplomats hostage. For
the last two decades the West, mainly America, has allowed Iran to
develop the infrastructure to produce a nuclear arsenal with delivery
capabilities.
Turkey
Turkey, once the seat of the Ottoman Empire (the Caliphate), is rapidly
changing from a secular democratic nation and a member of NATO to a
country ruled by fundamental Islamic (Sharia) law—another Iran. Will
Turkey return to its past? Ties have been strengthened with Iran. This
week Turkey allowed a flotilla of six ships, the "Free Gaza” flotilla,
to sail from the port of Antalya, bound for Gaza, and into the
Egyptian-Israeli blockade. The flotilla’s stated purpose was to bring
"humanitarian” aid to the Gaza Strip. Other such ships have been allowed
to deliver their cargos, after being inspected to ensure weapons were
not included as part of the aid. This time, there was a darker purpose.
Five of the ships stopped and allowed inspection by Israeli naval
forces—there were no problems.
The sixth ship, the Mavi Marmara, owned by the IHH (The
Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief),
carried 600 passengers bent on a violent confrontation: Islamic
extremists with terrorist ties, "peace” agitators, and assorted other
radicals, all prepared for violence. Women and children were included, a
typical terrorist tactic. The "passengers” on the Mavi Marmara,
were armed and ready to attack the Israeli boarding party. The first man
who came down the rope from a helicopter was attacked before he set foot
on the ship’s deck.
The Israeli boarding party—note, it was an inspection party armed with
paintball guns and side arms—it was not a raiding party of SEALS as
reported by the typically uninformed news media. Two Israeli sailors
were shot, and several injured. Finally, side arms (pistols) were used
in self-defense.
The overpaid, empty suits at the UN, unable or afraid to criticize Dear
Leader for an act of war, wasted no time in condemning Israel for doing
what they were entitled to do—inspect a ship for illegal arms. It only
took twenty-four hours for the empty suit in the oval office to order
the empty dress in the state department to pile-on with the rest of the
UN empty suits and dresses. The current administration has sent a clear
message to the Muslim world: Israel is on their own, and the Muslim
sharks smell blood in the water.
Israel
Some will tell you Israel is the source of Middle East hate. Baloney!
Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East. Hours after Israel
was created by the UN, it was attacked by Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Jordan,
Saudi Arabia, and the Arab Liberation Army. No one, including America,
came to her defense, and yet the Jews won. Israel, populated by Jews
from all over the globe, turned the barren desert into a thriving nation
that excels in technology, medicine, agriculture, and human rights. Does
Israel have nuclear weapons? I don’t know the answer, but I’ll give you
any odds you want that they do have them.
Has Israel threatened to wipe Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, or Syria off the
map? No, but Iran, the PLO, Hamas, and Hezbollah have and continue to
threaten to wipe Israel off the map. Now Turkey appears to be joining
the pack of hyenas.
Has Israel fired rockets and missiles into civilian areas of Lebanon,
Syria, Egypt, or Jordan? No, but over 7,000 rockets have been fired into
Israel. Two years ago Israel invaded Lebanon to stop the rocket attacks,
and was immediately condemned for protecting their citizens from being
murdered.
Connecting the dots
Iran and North Korea have joint nuclear and missile development
programs. Iranian scientists were reported to have been at North Korea’s
nuclear test. Both Iran and North Korea have backed down our president
and the UN. North Korea has just committed an act of war, and the UN
can’t even agree to send them a nasty memo. Iran is openly supplying its
creation, Hezbollah, with assorted weapons, including missiles and
rockets. Iran trains fighters, and supplies the Taliban with IEDs. Our
president has done everything but apologize to Iran for causing them
this inconvenience.
China, quietly securing mineral and energy sources, is building up its
military and industrial base, while watching America spin in endless
circles, chasing its tail. Whenever the opportunity presents itself,
they stick a pin in America’s rear end, usually by blocking any
meaningful action by the UN.
Connecting the final dots brings us back to the Middle East and Israel.
Israel’s neighbors must accept Israel’s right to exist. Some do not, and
until they do, seeking peace is an exercise in futility. Does Obama not
realize that by not supporting Israel, he is giving a green light for
her enemies to attack her? After our secretary of state condemned Israel
for boarding the Mavi Marmara, Turkey wasted no time in declaring
that if the U.S. or UN doesn’t punish Israel for (legally) boarding a
the Mavi Marmara to conduct an inspection.
Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced at a rally that
Hamas is not a terrorist organization, and condemned Israel for
"slaughtering” a 19-year old on the Mavi Marmara. He neglected to
tell us if the young man was assaulting an Israeli sailor when he was
shot. Like our president, attorney general, and secretary of homeland
security, who did not bother to read the Arizona immigration law before
condemning it, Erdogan could not have read the Hamas charter and still
made such an outlandish statement. Perhaps one can assume that 21st
Century leaders do not need to have their minds confused by the facts.
Turkey has allowed another ship, the Rachel Chorrie, to sail on
June 4th with the announced intention of breaking through the
Egyptian-Israeli blockade. Does Turkey want to start a war with Israel?
Does Erdogan understand that doing so could mean the end of Turkey?
What will happen if Israel is attacked by Turkey, and/or Iran, and/or
Syria while the U.S. watches from the sideline?
The answer may be a regional nuclear war. Iran would not push this hard,
if it hadn’t developed its own nuclear weapon or even weapons. If
reports are true, Israel must be considered to be a major nuclear power,
one capable of annihilating the entire Middle East.
