About Lee Boyland Lee Boyland earned a degree in nuclear engineering, then entered active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. A graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Explosive and Nuclear Ordnance Disposal Schools, Boyland was assigned to the Defense Atomic Support Agency in Albuquerque, NM. A member of DASA’s Nuclear Emergency Team responsible for nuclear weapons accidents, including the rendering safe of armed nuclear warheads, he had access to the design details of every nuclear and thermonuclear warhead developed by the United States through the Mark 63 warhead. His duties took him to the Nevada Test Site on many occasions. After leaving the Army, he designed conventional and special ordnance, and demilitarized chemical weapons at Rocky Mountain Arsenal and Tooele Army Depot. He made the transition to hazardous waste management by applying aerospace combustion technology to incineration of Agent Orange. When someone becomes the new boss, be it president of the United States, CEO of a company, commanding officer, or director of a division, they are well advised, before making changes, to take the time to analyze and understand the existing organization and its people. Only then, after serious thought and planning, should changes be made, one at a time with sufficient time in between to evaluate results. The amount of time required to fully understand the new job, known as the learning curve, is a function of the experience of the new boss.
Applying this analogy to the current president of the United States of America, we see a man who appears to have assumed he knows it all. A man who proceeded to make simultaneous, sweeping changes in many unrelated areas starting the day he took office. A man who undid many of the previous president’s actions without fully understanding their purpose. A man who apparently believes he does not require a learning curve. A man who is sure he can do it all by himself.
Previous presidents have concentrated on seating their Cabinet, filling key positions, and preparing their budgets as their first priorities. Most have waited some months before making major changes, because they understood the learning curve associated with the most important job in the world. Not so with Mr. Obama, a man who made unrealistic campaign promises—not uncommon with politicians—and then attempted to fulfill most of them in the first fifty days. While Mr. Obama deserves much credit for attempting to keep his promises—well, some of them anyway—this does not offset the magnitude of his mistakes.
If past administrations are any guide-posts, it can be unequivocally stated that experience outs when it comes to leadership, and that in a nutshell is one of Mr. Obama’s weaknesses. Unfortunately, his second weakness, and perhaps his greatest, involves one of the Christian culture’s so-called Seven Deadly Sins—Pride. The consequences of which are stated in Proverbs 15:8, "Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall”. The American people should not have to suffer the rigors of Mr. Obama’s inexperience and the catastrophic consequences of his prideful fall—something that seems inevitable given the outrageous decisions he has made during his first fifty days in office
For example, "A couple of months ago, Steven Rattner knew little about the U.S. auto industry. But that didn't prevent President Obama from recruiting him to solve one of the most vexing problems of the financial crisis -- how to avert a catastrophic collapse of Chrysler and General Motors,” An Insider in an Unfamiliar Role.
Combine Mr. Obama’s egotism with a Congress and Senate ruled by similarly unqualified, egotistical leaders who rule over a Democrat majority in both houses, and you have the recipe for disaster. America’s banking system is in chaos, approaching disaster, because of Congressional actions driven by a few Congressmen. Actions that have occurred under both Democratic and Republican presidents. Congress created the sub-prime mess, and the housing bubble, by forcing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to underwrite one hundred percent home loans to people clearly unable to afford them. Warning flags were hoisted by President Bush in 2001; the Bush administration in 2001, 2002, 2003; the FED Chairman as far back as 2005; and Senator McCain in 2006. Warnings ignored by Congress who pushed ahead with pie-in-the-sky programs, rationalizing that everyone deserved to own a home. Brit Hume prepared a FOX Special Report Timeline that clearly identifies the players. Senator Schumer declared in 2005 that Freddie and Fannie have done an incredibly good job.
Two of the major contributors to the financial fiasco are now in charge of fixing it. Boston Globe columnists Jeff Jacoby discusses Congressman Barney Frank’s role in his article "Frank's fingerprints are all over the financial fiasco.” Likewise, Dominic Lawson nails Senator Chris Dodd, in his op-ed piece on The Independent entitled "Democrat fingerprints are all over the financial crisis.” To Quote Mr. Lawson, "Neither of these two institutions is blameless – far from it. Yet when I see such senior Democrats as Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and Christopher Dodd, Chairman of the Senate's Banking Committee, play the part of avenging angels – well, I can only stand in silent awe at the sheer tight-bottomed nerve of it. These are men with sphincters of steel.” Well said, Mr. Lawson.
After pledging "No more pork”, the Omnibus Spending Bill contains enough pork to feed most of the world, with the exception of Muslims, for a year. Next came a budget reaching for the stars, containing an earmark for odor control at hog farms—perhaps a more appropriate appropriation would have been for Congressional odor control.
Our new president believes in talking with our enemies while gutting our military. Yes, in Mr. Obama’s politically correct world, words can replace bullets—The pen is mightier than the sword, so the saying goes. I sure hope all those people with bad intentions toward us understand this. They’d better, because Mr. Obama is betting our lives that they do.
While Washington bumbles along, our nuclear weapons is stockpile deteriorating, suffering from lack of maintenance and testing. A new warhead, the Reliable Replacement Warhead, scheduled to replace old ones, will most likely be cancelled by Mr. Obama, along with the F-22 Raptor air superiority fighter, and the new Air Force tanker procurement. In the mean time, China and Russia are busy upgrading their nuclear weapons stockpile and delivery systems.
An embarrassed International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is being forced to admit that Iran has enough enriched uranium to make one or two atomic bombs—something I predicted last year—while the IAEA and intelligence communities still had their heads in the sand, predicting five to ten years.
Mr. Obama is not alone in failing to understand our military and how wars are fought. Some in Congress seem to care more about our enemies than our military men and women, who they equate to Humvees, expendable items that can be replaced. With no concern for our soldiers or allies, Congress passed and Mr. Obama signed the 2009 $410 billion Omnibus Spending Bill, which contained a prohibition on the export of most cluster munitions. The reason given was that some of the sub-munitions, bomblets, fail to explode and pose a hazard to civilians. Such items are known as unexploded ordnance, UXO, and are not limited to bomblets. As a former Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer, I know from first hand experience that UXOs include bombs, artillery shells, hand grenades, rockets—in fact all types of explosive munitions. UXOs from our civil war are still being found. Bomblets were introduced during WWII. Senators Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, and Patrick Leahy, D-VT, have introduced legislation (S 416) that would prohibit our military from using cluster bombs, one of our most effective weapons. What’s next? Land mines, artillery delivered sub-munitions? Why not ban all explosives ordnance and go back to swords? Don’t laugh, I’m sure someone in Congress is planning to do so. Such irresponsible actions will increase our body count while lowering our enemies’.
Three international pots are boiling: Iran’s nuclear weapons, Pakistan, and Mexico.
The Israel-Iran pot is about to boil over, and President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton appear clueless. While the U.S. economy spins downward, Mr. Obama told Secretary Clinton to pledge $900 million to rebuild Gaza. Outrageous! Bush avoided dealing with the Israeli-Iranian problem by delaying, and then dumped it into Mr. Obama’s lap. An Iranian nuclear bomb means war—nuclear war.
Unstable Pakistan is a second pot ready to boil over, with Afghanistan providing the spark to light the fire. There are three basic solutions to the Afghanistan problem: (1) Fight al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan; (2) chase the jihadists into Pakistan and destroy them; or (3) make a deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Geographically, Iraq is a much better place to fight our kind of war—a war of maneuver and air-to-ground support—than Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Soviet Union couldn’t win in Afghanistan, and the cost broke their bank.
If we increase troops in Afghanistan while allowing sanctuary in Pakistan for the jihadists, we have created a second Vietnam. Be prepared for our body count to rise. Such a strategy can break our bank too.
But, if we send troops into Pakistan—the only way to end the Afghanistan war—we create a situation ripe for a coup by Islamic radicals, an Islamic Revolution, and Pakistan becomes a second Iran. President Asif Ali Zardari is struggling to stay in power. If Pakistan follows Iran’s path, Islamic radicals will have deliverable nuclear weapons.
Making a deal with the Taliban will delay, but not prevent, Pakistan’s fall, and a war between Pakistan and India will most likely follow—a nuclear war.
A third pot getting ready to boil over is Mexico. Drugs and drug cartels threaten the stability of Mexico and the southern United States. Illegal aliens are illegal! Something that Democrats don’t seem to understand. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the only law enforcement officer enforcing the law, is now under investigation.
Mr. Obama’s justice department has notified Sheriff Arpaio that investigators will focus on alleged patterns of police discrimination based on national origin. CNSNews.com reports that in a letter dated March 10, 2009, Loretta Smith, acting assistant attorney general at the DOJ, detailed what her department would be investigating: "This is to inform you that the United States Department of Justice is commencing an investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (‘MCSO’') pursuant to the pattern or practice provisions of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994,42 U.S.C. §14141 (‘Section 14141’) and the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968,42 U.S.C. § 3789d (‘Safe Streets Act’), and pursuant to the prohibitions against national origin discrimination in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,42 U.S.C. §§ 2000d to 2000d-7 (‘Title Yr') and the Safe Streets Act, 42 U.S.C. § 3789d(c).
"The investigation will focus on alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures conducted by the MCSO, and on allegations of national origin discrimination, including failure to provide meaningful access to MCSO services for limited English proficient (LEP) individuals."
"In conducting the investigation, we will seek to determine whether there are violations of the above laws by the MCSO." Click here to read the entire article.
On the diplomatic scene, the Obama administration is having a hard time getting it right. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened her first extended talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva by giving him a present meant to symbolize the Obama administration’s vow to "press the reset button” on U.S.-Russia relations. She handed a palm-sized box wrapped with a bow. Lavrov opened it and pulled out the gift: a red button on a black base with a Russian word peregruzka printed on top. Clinton said, "We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” "You got it wrong,” Lavrov replied.Instead of "reset," Lavrov said the word on the box meant "overcharge.”
Obama’s administration is sending strange signals to Israel, our only real ally in the Middle East. Does the president plan to re-establish diplomatic relations with Iran? That would mean accepting the Iranian Bomb, and all but guarantees a war between Israel and Iran—probably a nuclear war.
Charles Krauthammer penned a penetrating piece, Deception at the core of Obama plans. Mr. Krauthammer provides numerous examples, starting with the $2 trillion dollar savings claimed by Mr. Obama’s budget director, who later admitted that $1.6 trillion was savings realized by not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019—eleven years after President Bush had ended the surge.
Another issue, the most important one in the author’s opinion, is Mr. Obama’s eligibility to be president. The issue turns on Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President...” No person or agency is responsible for assuring that a presidential candidate meets this requirement. Democrats have closed ranks to fight the numerous lawsuits brought to obtain a copy of Mr. Obama’s "vaulted” birth certificate (not a certificate of live birth which is issued by Hawaii to citizens and children of an American parent borne anywhere), a document required to be produced in order obtain a passport or driver’s license. Federal and state judges have dismissed these lawsuits and the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear several such lawsuits appealed to it. More lawsuits are on the way, including one by military officers and enlisted personnel who demand certification of Mr. Obama’s eligibility to issued orders as Commander-in-Chief. When a case is presented to the Supreme Court by a justice, a closed door hearing is held to decide if the full court will hear the case. Four justices must vote t hear a case, and so far four justices have not so voted. Shame on the Supreme Court, who’s primary duty is to protect and enforce the U.S. Constitution.
California attorney Orly Taiz confronted Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts at a lecture he was giving at the University of Idaho on March 13th. She said to the Chief Justice, "My question is, do you know there is illegal activity going on in the Supreme Court of the United States?" She gave him a petition with over 325,000 names asking the court to decide if Mr. Obama meets the "natural born citizen clause. Taiz said that a Supreme Court clerk had buried her case that was to be heard by the court. Click here to read the article.
It is mandatory for the U.S. Supreme Court to determine whether Mr. Obama is our president or an imposter. Continued avoidance of the issue sets the stage for civil disobedience and possibly a civil war. Mr. Obama can settle the issue by producing his vaulted birth certificate showing his was born in the United States, and there is no reason for him not to do so—unless he can’t. Until Mr. Obama proves his eligibility to be president, I cannot recognize him as such. As a taxpayer, I would gladly approve a twelve dollar expenditure of stimulus funds to purchase a certified copy of Mr. Obama’s vaulted birth certificate for display to the news media.
At least one Congress man understands the problem. Representative Bill Posey, R-FL, has introduced legislation in the U.S. Congress that would require presidential candidates to produce a birth certificate in order to run for the presidency. Karen Thurman, chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party immediately voiced her opposition to Posey’s bill. Somehow providing a mechanism for establishing that a candidate meets Constitutional mandated requirements for the office of President of the United States places the Republican party in "denial.” The story was published on the front page of Florida Today on March 14, 2009.
