Could
Terror Fear Be a Good Thing?

The FBI and the Office of Homeland Security have conveyed
great concern that they anticipate a sizable terrorist attack on the United
States prior to the November elections. The predominant reasoning for this
concern revolves around escalated terrorist chatter i.e. the chatter that
was uncovered before the bombing in Madrid and the fact that the Madrid
bombings did exactly what they set out to do, skew the national election in
Spain.
I have wondered, sometimes aloud, whether a terrorist attack on the mainland
United States would achieve the desired effect for the terrorist
organization that would perpetrate them.
On one hand the fickle mainstream media and the political opportunists of
the Left would most certainly equate the evil of the terrorist attack with
what they perceive as the failed policies of the Bush Administration. They
have taken this approach to every aspect of the War on Terror whether it be
in Afghanistan or Iraq, Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay. Refusing to understand
that not all things go as planed in a war, the Liberal-Left in the United
States and the globalist/socialist/anti-American contingents from Europe and
around the world insists on every occasion of complication that the root
cause of the complication itself rests solely with the Bush Administration.
This, of course, leaves no responsibility to be placed on those who would
perpetrate terror; raping, maiming, murdering and wreaking havoc throughout
the world.
When one takes into account the power of the mainstream media and the fact
they cater to the haranguing of the politically motivated Left, it could be
argued that the terrorists could in fact see their efforts celebrated in the
streets of Tehran and in the Bekaa Valley.
On the other hand, we have proof from the not too distant past that when
attacked the people of the United States tend to lash out at those who
perpetrated the attacks; we tend to come together in solidarity to affect
retribution against those who would send death to our shores. After
September 11th the American people didn’t gather around their television
sets to watch our president talk about aligning our nation with the United
Nations in an effort to formulate a response to those who had attacked us.
And after the attack on Pearl Harbor all those years ago we did not see our
nation circled around their radios listening to President Roosevelt talk
about diplomatic solutions to the brutal attack that almost completely
crippled the Pacific Fleet of the United States Navy.
What we did see in both these instances was a nation that rallied to the
cause. We saw a nation that stood with their president in an effort, and a
successful effort I might add, to heal any wounds our nation may have
sustained. We saw a nation who stood in solidarity with their leader in the
conviction that we should not tolerate terrorism in our streets and that the
fight should be taken to the enemy rather than to the streets of our cities,
towns and villages. In essence, we did not see a country divided in
combating ideologies but a nation united as a people aghast at what
loathsome creatures could do to another people.
When one looks at the true resilience of the American people when faced with
adversity a terrorist attack on the United States prior to the November
election – or any time in the near future – could backfire enormously and
serve as the instance that would quell the voice of dissent in this country
with regard to the Bush Administration’s efforts in the War on Terror and
the War on Terror in general. In essence, another attack on the United
States by terrorists could very well see the pendulum swing from a position
that favors the globalist leanings of the Left – a position that acquiesces
to the will of the United Nations, an organization that has "oily hands”
thanks to scandal regarding Iraq – to one that would assure the best
interests of the United States is held at the highest levels.
The fact the mainstream media – and the politically motivated Liberal-Left
in this country – insist upon turning every instance of rough road into a
"quagmire” is, quite frankly, disingenuous. As Ann Coulter alluded to in her
latest offering, the media and the Liberal-Left are doing their best to turn
potential victories in the War on Terror into potential failures. Just as
the Tet offensive in Vietnam was a practical victory the anti-war movement
back home in the United States changed it to the single most devastating
defeat of the Vietnam experience; they turn a battlefield victory in Iraq
into a political defeat, all in the name of ideology.
Truly, when it comes to the security of the United States we all must put
the survival of our nation, our way of life ahead of ideology. If we don’t
there is the chance that we won’t be afforded the luxury of having an
ideology at all.
