As
the newly freed people of Iraq greet the liberating coalition forces in
Baghdad with happiness and celebration, while the liberated people of Iraq
place nooses around the necks of statues of Saddam Hussein in
an effort to destroy them, I am wondering what Susan Sarandon is thinking?
As humanitarian aid is being dispersed in Basra and other areas of Baghdad,
as the free Iraqi people receive the medical treatment and food that they
were denied by Saddam Hussein and his idiot sons, I wonder what
Jeannine Garafolo is thinking?
As coalition forces find UNICEF supplies meant for the impoverished people
of Iraq in one of Saddam Hussein's son's palaces, humanitarian supplies that
were purchased with oil for food money, I wonder what Mike Farrell
is thinking?
Ultimately, this military action, this war, is about the people of Iraq. It
is about the liberation of an oppressed people. It is about freedom. It is
about stopping a brutal regime from torturing those with opposing opinions.
It is about stopping secret police from raiding homes of those who are brave
enough to stand up for what is right. It is about eliminating a regime that
practiced, rape, terror, murder and mutilation while oppressing the people
of an entire nation while they threatened their neighbors and the world.
As coalition forces helped the liberated populace of Baghdad pull down a
statue of Saddam Hussein located in Paradise Square at the center of Baghdad
in a symbolic alliance, we need to understand and fully comprehend that this
entire diplomatic and military effort which started such a long time ago has
always been about the people of Iraq, not the oil, not occupation, but the
people of Iraq. Those of us who cannot look at the pictures in the media of
the Iraqi people celebrating in the streets and greeting our troops with
open and grateful arms, those of us who look at this, the purest form of
freedom, and cannot feel or understand or comprehend this awesome
moment...well, I simply cannot understand you.
Where are the "flat earth” protesters who stopped traffic in New York,
Chicago and Washington? Are they seeing this and if so, what can they
possibly be thinking? Are they still completely convinced that we should
have left the tyrant in power until the United Nations could get off their
rears and come together to do what was right?
Where are the Hollywood opportunists who claimed that our military was going
to kill tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi women and children? Are they
anywhere near a television to see the very women and children they accused
our government of putting in harms way hugging, kissing and embracing our
troops as they free them from an oppressive dictator that would have just as
easily killed them as raped them?
Where are the "free-thinkers” of our nation and the world that wanted to
argue semantics and technicalities while these people tasted the bitter
cocktail of torture, brutality and oppression? Are they now too ashamed to
admit that they put the importance of their ideology ahead of the welfare of
the entire population of a nation in need of our help? They should be.
All of those who opposed the liberation of the Iraqi people should be made
to watch their celebrations and listen to the messages of gratitude and
gratefulness they are exhibiting towards the soldiers of the coalition
forces and the nations brave and astute enough to have sent them. As they
watch these amazing scenes, scenes that will be replayed throughout history
and long after we all are gone, one can only hope that they understand how
selfish, shortsighted and quite frankly, how wrong they were. I do not gloat
as I write this, rather I hope that they can see the error of their beliefs
so that they can understand the compassion and dedication that the American
people, especially our president, President George W. Bush,
has for humanity and the world community as a whole.
As the people of Iraq adjust to their newly afforded freedom we should all
realize that the military action there is not over. There are small groups
loyal to Saddam Hussein's sick and twisted regime. They will continue to
fight, as will the sick and twisted from the oppressive movements in other
Arab countries who have flocked to Iraq to fight against freedom and the
liberated people of Iraq in the hopes that one day their brand of oppressive
and narcissistic governing will come back to power. It is our
responsibility, the freedom loving people of the world, to make sure this
never, ever happens again. It is also our responsibility to oppose this type
of sick, twisted, evil ideal wherever it exists.
In the memory of those who have died so that so many could live free we must
stand by our troops, their leaders and our President.
Freedom. Worth the cost. Anywhere. Always.
