You’ve got to give liberals one thing: If they’re nothing else,
they’re consistent about spewing garbage, thereby proving that those
who make a religion of politics and gods of politicians will lie any
lie, hiss any hypocrisy, sell out any mother, and Sister Souljah any
principle if they believe doing so might earn them a scrap of
political power.
That thought comes to mind because no sooner had I finished writing
that Governor Palin must prepare herself to bear “the worst slings
and arrows of outrageous presidential politics” than, like everyone
else, I found myself up to my nose in reeking liberal filth that
seeks to make political hay of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy.
Here, if you will hold your noses, is some of the rotten stuff.
Let’s begin with a post the Daily Kos was
happy to print:
“You can’t make this shit up. ‘Evangelical Christian’ Sarah Palin’s
17 year old daughter is knocked up...Oh, but she’s KEEPING it.
Wonderful. What’s the name going to be: Bareback?”
As much as that post represents a particularly
repugnant pile of smut, there is no need to get into it any further
because its basic message is the same as that propounded by equally
“progressive” but much more “mainstream” liberal writers.
It does bear mentioning, however, that this is the
same Kos whose founder, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, said
of the American contractors brutally murdered in Iraq, “I feel
nothing over the death of merceneries [sic]...They are there
to wage war for profit. Screw them.”
This is the same Kos whose founder is “a
regular contributor to Newsweek” (in that estimable
“mainstream” magazine’s own words).
This is the same Kos whose annual convention
was attended this year by every major Democratic presidential
contender except Joe Biden, who couldn’t make it but later imitated
Hillary Clinton, who had chided Bill O’Reilly for attempting to
silence an admirable blog that serves as a home and an outlet for
“progressives.”
And this is the same Kos whose “About” section has this to
say regarding the website’s mainstream status in the Democratic
Party:
“Among luminaries posting diaries on the site are President Jimmy
Carter, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker of the House
Nancy Pelosi, and dozens of other senators, congressmen, and
governors.” (“luminaries,” indeed.)
We move on now to Sally Quinn, the Washington Post’s consummate
political insider who, by jumping on the story Friday, August 29,
distinguished herself as the first writer of an important
publication to use Bristol Palin’s pregnancy to harm the McCain
campaign by spreading a load of reeking rot over it.
Quinn begins her sordid task as follows:
“This may be a hard one for the Republican conservative
family-values crowd to swallow. Of course, this can happen in any
family. But it must certainly raise the question among the
evangelical base about whether Sarah Palin has been enough of a
hands-on mother.”
Then, surprise, surprise, her mind flows to an entirely different
topic: “Palin isn’t ready to be leader of the free world.”
What morally vacuous, anti-intellectual, insulting, politically
motivated, hypocritical garbage.
Does the “conservative family-values crowd” turn its back on an
unmarried teenager who becomes pregnant and stick its nose in the
air at her family?
Do evangelicals act upon a biblical injunction that commands them to
condemn the “failures” of every mother whose unmarried teen becomes
pregnant?
Has Quinn questioned whether Joe Biden has been enough of a
“hands-on” father because in 2002, his daughter was arrested for
“obstructing a police officer” trying to make an arrest by blocking
“the officer’s path” and making “intimidating statements”?
Does Quinn fret in her columns that a former community organizer,
seven-year state senator, and four-year U.S. Senator (two years of
which have been spent campaigning for the presidency) “isn’t ready
to be leader of the free world”?
Would Quinn have all women with demanding jobs stay at home with
their teen daughters baking cookies?
We know the answers to those questions just as we know that garbage
begets more garbage.
That truism explains why it must have been the Kos/Quinn team
that inspired Post columnist and regular MSNBC contributor Gene
Robinson to dump the following slimy non sequitur in “Would You Do
That to Your Daughter?”
“It’s one thing to walk the walk of your political beliefs, as
Palin did when she learned that her infant son would be born with
Down syndrome. It’s another thing to bring your teenage daughter
along for the hike — or even to allow her to follow you down such a
path.”
Not to be outdone, the thrice inspired New York Times (by the Kos,
Quinn and Robinson) machine-gunned three articles in one blazing row
that purports to sum up the entire effect of Palin’s selection upon
the nation.
The first article “call[s] into question how well John McCain had
screened [Palin].”
The second reports that “[the selection] has set off a fierce
argument among women about whether [Palin] has the time to take on
the vice presidency.”
The third “[asserts that] the disclosure of [Palin’s] teenage
daughter’s pregnancy brought uncertainty.”
Who can miss the perfect imitation of liberal talking points as the
Times meticulously adheres to its motto of publishing all the
expedient leftist trash fit to print.
Well, enough for now regarding the reeking garbage with which
liberals are fouling the nation these days except to say that it
should remind us of Edgar Lee Masters’ poem “Editor Whedon.”
That’s the poem in which Editor Whedon, speaking from the grave,
tells us he did nothing but “To pervert truth, to ride it for a
purpose/To use great feelings and passions of the human family/ For
base designs, for cunning ends.”
And where, ultimately, did his vicious treachery get him?
To lie in a
particular nook of Spoon River’s cemetery, where he spends every
tick and tock of every day of every year looking “over the place/
Where the sewage flows from the village/And the empty cans and
garbage are dumped/And abortions are hidden.”
