Fast-forward three thousand one hundred and ninety-nine years. The United States is similarly situated today. The "Trojan Horse" in this case is illegal immigration; the nonchalant, no, the way that illegal immigration is handled; the way that the nation's borders and coasts are not guarded; and the way that pervasive political correctness stymies enforcement of existing laws. "Liberals" including the former "Compassionate Conservative-in-Chief" (and the incumbent local US Representative who went to Washington to "support that President" and has been a do nothing, self-serving careerist) and both Democrats and Republicans are "tearing down the wall of the city" for "Trojan Horses" that can cause fatal harm. Witness that three of the attackers of September 11th, 2001 were in the US illegally, and now, courtesy of the current Administration there are literally hundreds of thousands of potential terrorists. Additionally, with the present "open borders" policy, terrorists can easily enter and smuggle weapons that could include nuclear weapons. Then what?
The United States is still recovering from the 2008 economic collapse made worse by an Administration that has as its focus to "fundamentally change America." Even a full recovery will not replace the millions of jobs that US citizens have lost to illegal immigrants during the period. It is estimated that of the 20 million illegal immigrants in the US many, if not most, work for less than minimum wages and that swells the roles of unemployment of those citizens who would otherwise be employable. When "illegals" seek medical treatment, ultimately citizens' insurance premiums go up because hospitals are required to render emergency care without regard to the ability to pay. It is no small wonder that the cost of medical care has gone berserk, compounded by the advent of the Affordable Care Act. It is estimated that illegal immigrants consume $100 billion more in public services than what they pay in taxes, if and when they pay.
There are two distinct forces at work: first is the effect of illegal immigrants on wage by undermining pay scales of unskilled US workers, and second is exportation of higher paying "skilled" jobs to low wage, albeit well educated people in third world countries such as China, India and etc.
Although unemployment has declined from the recession high of nearly 12 percent, it does not reflect the fact that US workers regaining employment must often take jobs that pay less than they made when the economic bubble burst. The dirty "little" secret is that unemployment is calculated based on those who are in the labor market. At the present time there are roughly ninety million Americans who could work but do not, and who are drawing some sort of government "entitlement" support. So, as the labor market shrinks, giving a false illusion that unemployment appears to be falling. Additionally, services such as police and fire protection for US citizens are diluted and overall costs to taxpayers increase. When "illegals" commit murder and flee to Mexico, that government shields them against extradition because of US death penalty laws. To make matters worse a number of US cities defy Federal law by harboring illegal immigrants, a fact that is compounded by an Administration that is complicit in the situation, with the result of becoming increasingly disastrous.
The effect of illegal immigration while benefiting "illegal" employers who seek to improve their bottom line as well as benefiting illegal immigrants, it is harmful if not disastrous to low and middle income Americans and must be stopped. Otherwise, the vast American middle class will disappear at an ever increasing rate. Two highly divergent classes would emerge, a small wealthy class and vast under/under employed class. Whereas the result would doubtless please many on the left, by "leveling the playing field," it would reduce all except those wealthy and political elitists to a relatively low level of existence. America, the land of freedom, promise and opportunity would cease to exist and a Marxist social order would fulfill Nikita Khrushchev's prediction, "we will bury you."
To begin curing the pervasive problems Congress must enact legislation that provides adequate resources and strengthens the ability: of the Border Patrol and Coast Guard to secure the nation's borders and coasts; of the Department of State to properly and adequately and properly screen before issuing visas; of the Immigration and Naturalization Service to block entry of unauthorized persons; and, to deport illegal immigrants. Federal and State Attorneys should vigorously ferret out and prosecute employers of "illegals." This should also apply to those born on US soil incident to illegal entry of an expectant mother, the child who would otherwise be granted citizenship under Article XIV of the Constitution should be disallowed under the "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine. If one considers the potential number of illegal immigrants, said to be nearly twenty million, the notion of deportation seems impossible, so some turn to legal residency may be necessary as an alternative. If that is granted then those who enter illegally should never have the right to become citizens with the single exception that if they serve honorably in the Armed Forces for a minimum of five years they could apply for citizenship. Otherwise, if they wish to become citizens they must depart and wait for a minimum of five years before applying for reentry to the United States.
Unless and until elected officials act to stop illegal entry and immigration, stop aid and comfort to illegal immigrants or entrants, and sanction or punish those who aide or abet illegal immigration or immigrants and entrants, this nation is the modern day equivalent of the ancient city of Troy, and the contemporary illegal immigration "Trojan Horse," just as surely as the one of ancient Troy, contains the seeds of national destruction. Who will stop it?
