Despite the confusing spin that Progressive leadership uses to salve the political wounds the American Left, the people have sent a clear message: “Stop. We do not approve of what you are doing. ” It is a very simple message, no nuance in it at all.
While this election was historic in the change it heralds, it is also a reflection of our most cherished history. It reveals the indispensable American character, the love of liberty. You see, Americans do not like being told what to do. They did not in 1776 and do not now. This is especially true when it is obvious that the people telling us what to do are lying to us.
This administration has lied so persistently it is a remarkable thing when they do tell the truth. They lied to all of us, but especially, they lied to their own; their Democrat supporters. They have taken them for granted, and forced them into political quagmires with unpopular and unconstitutional policies that please only the most radical of their party: Progressives; a diminutive but loud minority that demands far too much attention, distracting us from the real issues.
They also refuse to enforce the laws they swore to uphold. That is not how this nation works. We are a Republic; a nation of laws that is successful only when all citizens respect those laws. Change comes through a legislative process, not through political sleight of hand. When one ignores the nation’s laws, and work against them outside of that process, and do so in violation of the system governing it, it vexes us greatly. The mutual respect of law is the very soul of our success as a nation. Even the “rubes” in “fly-over country” know that.
I must also mention that arrogance is not a very effective way to convince the American people that one is smart enough to “rule us.” When James Carville wrote his silly little book, 40 More Years: How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation, it telegraphed appalling arrogance. The Obama administration makes Carville look absolutely humble. Arrogance with some success behind it is more palatable of course, but not at all when it is surrounded by corruption, excess, ineptitude, deceit and manipulation. We are not blind, and even a cozy relationship with the press cannot hide our national disaster. Truth will eventually win out. One does not need a Harvard degree to know that.
So, when Harry Reid tried to minimize the historic smack down Progressives and Democrats received on Tuesday last, he really should be told, “Shut up, Harry!” After all, he was the lap dog that helped President Obama get the Democrat Party to where they are now:
"I'd like to congratulate Senator McConnell, who will be the new Senate Majority Leader," Reid said. "The message from voters is clear: they want us to work together. I look forward to working with Senator McConnell to get things done for the middle class."
It will be cathartic for Democrats to remind Harry Reid that Americans in fact do not “want us to work together,” they want us to stop what President Obama and the Democrat Party leadership (read: the Progressives) are doing. They want us to repeal Obamacare. They want us to secure the borders. They want a free market with minimal government interference. They want us to crush the Islamic State. They want a strong military. They want us to quarantine people who may have EBOLA. They want us to punish law breakers in the IRS, the DoJ, the EPA and all the alphabet soup government money pits that work so hard to steal our freedoms and our money. A short e-mail to his office should suffice.
Let me also remind rank-and-file Democrats that their fellow citizens, who just handed them this dose of electoral reality, are not racists, they are not anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-poor or anti-environment. The overheated propaganda the Democrat propagandists lately threw at the American people claiming those things really revealed the party’s worst side. In fact, Democrats really should feel embarrassed.
The Americans who voted to stop our current national trajectory believe in laws enacted as our Founders intended, after a national debate, by representatives “of the people”, elected with open and fair elections, and reflecting the fundamental beliefs of the majority while respecting the rights of the minority. Executive fiat or judicial activism is not how it works. It is very simple really. Of course, no one always get their way. Perhaps that is part of the Democrat leadership’s problem?
Anyway, Democrats should buck up. History is a pendulum and their day will come again, but hopefully not until the rest of us repair the damage that has been done, which may take quite a long time. Until that time it might be a good idea for Democrats and Liberals to get to know the wonderful people in “fly-over country.” The social engineers, self-appointed elites, beltway geniuses, bad comedians, academics, activists, and fanatics that have recently fleshed out the Democrat Party are really not that popular after all.
It may be time for rank-and-file Democrats to rethink their allegiances. I mean if their party lies so frequently, even to their most loyal supporters, isn’t it time to break up? Why should they reward such terrible treatment? Party loyalty should never trump loyalty to the country. The abused of the Democrat Party need to accept and understand that dishonesty and cheating are not acceptable. And I have every belief that they can do it. It feels good to be free.
